2010 WINNIPEG CIVIC ELECTION: OCTOBER 27

Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the direction Winnipeg is headed?  Think about what environmental issues are important to you and how the candidates are planning to address them.  If they don't mention environmental issues in their platform or in the media, send them an email or call them so they know you are concerned about the environment. Here are some useful resources:

  • An Environmental Platform for Winnipeg; Green Action Centre's list of priorities for a greener Winnipeg
  • Growing Green-Growing the Economy by Greening Winnipeg; Winnipeg Citizens Coalition's strategy to spur local business growth by halving the city's fossil fuel consumption over the next 15 years.
  • Winnipeg Elections 2010 Guide; Manitoba Alternative Food Research Alliance's toolkit to help map out the important food issues in the upcoming civic election.
  • Canadian Community Economic Development Network; questions about community renewal and poverty reduction that you can pose to mayoral cadidates in an upcoming debate.

So, do you know who you are going to vote for this October 27?

It is important for all citizens to become engaged with elections and become an informed voter.  Please check out the candidates' platforms and visit your local polling station and vote on election day.  It doesn't take a lot of time but can make a significant difference to Winnipeg and the people who live here.

These are the mayoral candidates (listed in order of registration date) and their websites (if available):

Judy Wasylycia-Lies

Sam Katz (incumbent)

Rav Gill
