We have an immediate need for a permanent, full time Registered Animal Health Technologist. This position will report to the Head, Veterinary Services. The Technologist will provide preventative and clinical veterinary services for a diverse collection of over 1,500 animals representing over 200 different species. The Technologist will perform physical examinations and administer treatments, diagnostic tests, medications and anaesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian. The Technologist will maintain an inventory of hospital supplies, provide husbandry care to hospitalized animals, and maintain medical and other hospital records. The Technologist will monitor the safety of animal enclosures and contribute to supervising work experience students and/or researchers. The Technologist must follow all health and safety legislation, regulations and policies, and provide extraordinary experiences to our visitors while completing their regular daily activities
Days, evenings, and weekends including holidays are required. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $23.15 (APC-CUPE Local 500).
Successful completion of an accredited Veterinary Technology Program and the Veterinary Technologist National Examination, plus a minimum of one year of clinical veterinary Technologist experience, preferably involving work with zoo or wild animals, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants must have or be willing to acquire a Registered Animal Health Technologist designation from the Manitoba Animal Health Technologists Association (MAHTA). Basic knowledge of and experience with computer programs including Microsoft Office software, basic mechanical skills for operating related equipment, and a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License are required. Candidates must demonstrate skills in responding to emergencies. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills for maintaining respectful working relationships with fellow employees and relating well with visitors. Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position (documentation of physical capacity may be required), be reliable, and be available to work days, evenings and weekends including holidays.
