Water Caucus Coordinator

Manitoba Eco-Network seeks an individual for a one year replacement term as Water Caucus Coordinator.  Start date is October 1, 2010.

Duties:
General Water Caucus activities
(in conjunction with the part-time Assistant Coordinator):
* conduct outreach and liaison with Manitoba community groups concerned with water issues
* attend water related events on behalf of the Manitoba Eco-Network (this may involve travel in and outside of Manitoba);
* research water issues;* update water pages of Eco-Network website, maintain water listserve;
* organize water caucus meetings;
* organize and coordinate a public education workshop on a current water topic (to be determined), and a capacity building workshop (topic and Manitoba location to be determined);
* prepare reports to funders and create new funding proposals;

Protect our Water project implementation:

*coordinate and oversee the implementation of a household water conservation and protection project in 2 Manitoba communities outside of Winnipeg, including liaison with community-based partner groups, hiring and overseeing project staff (term positions), and securing incremental funding where necessary.

Skills:

This position demands:

* strong understanding of environmental issues and water policy, particularly in Manitoba;
* excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to work independently;
* ability to prepare and give presentations
* experience with budgeting and report writing and proposal development
* experience overseeing and working with volunteers and staff;

Additional attributes that would be welcomed include:

  • good computer skills, preferably including website maintenance
  • experience organizing meetings and coordinating events

Remuneration:

Commensurate with experience, between $25,000 and $29,000 per year based on a 4 -day, 28 hour per week work schedule.

Canvasser

If you're a people person who loves working outside and is passionate about environmental issues, this job is for you!

Go door-to-door as part of the Wilderness Committee Team to educate, inspire, build our membership base and raise funds for our very important work protecting Canada's boreal forests, waterways, and species.

Applicants must be able to work a minimum of six days in a ten day pay period. Shifts are from 4:30-9:30 p.m. We offer very flexible scheduling in a fun, adventurous, and supportive work environment. Pay is based on $10/hour for five-hour shifts, augmented by a very attractive commission structure. Motivated canvassers can make up to $20/hour and opportunities for advancement.

International Internship Program

The International Institute for Sustainable Development, through its Sustainability Leadership Innovation Center (SLIC), has begun recruiting for the Young Leaders for a Sustainable Future (YLSF) international internship program.

The YLSF program offers young professionals an opportunity to participate in overseas internships in the Global South, with positions in Africa and Latin America. Interns are hosted by reputable international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Program and IUCN, amongst others.

Application deadline: Friday, September 17, 2010
Interviews: Selected participants to be interviewed at the end of September 2010
Start Date: Mid-October 2010
End Date: End-April 2011

· Have no previous paid career-related international work experience
· Have knowledge and understanding of international development issues and practices, as pertaining to the position being applied for, and
· Available for a minimum of six months starting from mid-October (2010) through to the end of April (2011).

All those selected to participate will receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.

North End Food Security Assistant

North End Community Renewal Corporation/North End Food Security Network is seeking a Food Security Network Assistant. This is a twelve week term position, 28-35 hours per week, $12/hr September-December, 2010.
Interviews will take place September15th with a start date of September 20th, 2010

Job summary:
The North End Food Security/Greening Project (NEFS/GP) provides opportunities for low-income families living in the Point Douglas community area, to improve their ability to provide sustainable nutritious food for their families through food security and greening activities. The NEFSA will assist the North End Security and Greening Coordinator in the planning and implementation of these opportunities.
Task Description:
1. Office Administration
? Assist with daily office tasks that include answering the phone, filing and updating databases, photocopying, newsletter and flyer production and workshop evaluation documentation
2. Food Security Workshops
? Assist in the planning of a Manitoba Plant workshop , and promotion of food security workshops through flyers and emails
3. Collective Kitchens
? Assist in the planning of a Collective kitchen leader training session and one collective kitchen group
? Attend six collective kitchen sessions as kitchen leader or kitchen leader assistant
4. Food Accessibility
? Assist in planning of program to improve food buying choices for North End residents
5. Other tasks as assigned

The successful applicant will have/be:
? Strong-interest in Food Security & Environmental sustainability issues
? Good written and oral communication skills
? Good organizational skills with proven attention to detail
? Good interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
? Good level of computer knowledge, Internet, Word and Excel
? Be self motivated and a team player
? Able to multitask and meet deadlines
? Valid driver's license and occasional access to a vehicle is considered an assets

Participants must also meet the following the criteria:
This position is being offered through the Youth Eco Internship Program (YEIP) at YWCA Canada with funding from the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan. Candidates must be 15-30, unemployed, and Canadian citizens or permanent residents in order to be eligible to apply for this position.
The YEIP particularly encourages applicants from visible minority, Aboriginal, immigrant, refugee and traditionally marginalized communities, and is committed to providing employment accommodation supports for youth with disabilities where reasonably possible.
