Job Title: Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer is responsible for executing the visual and digital elements for FortWhyte’s marketing and communications strategy through the creative development and production of promotional and educational materials, signage, social media messaging, and the maintenance of the corporate website.
Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager
In close consultation with the Marketing and Communications Manager and Management Team, develop all general promotional and informational material including maps, handouts, FortWhyte Life e-newsletter, advertisements, interior and exterior signage, as well as business materials such as letterhead and business cards.
Collaborate with all FortWhyte departments to create other educational materials ensuring design and layout is consistent with the FortWhyte brand image by selecting photos, creating layout, soliciting editing feedback, and incorporating revisions.
Create print materials associated with Special Events such as Earth Day, Sunset BBQ, Golf Tournament, etc.
In collaboration with department heads, (Operations, Development, FW Farms, Education, Volunteer, Group Services, Visitor Services/Retail) develop the design and sometimes the message for advertisements (paid and unpaid) and promotional materials aimed at specific target markets, as determined by marketing strategy and budget.
Using Word Press, regularly update and maintain the FortWhyte website to ensure content is up-to-date and effective.
Produce and distribute monthly email newsletter and maintain database of member and non-member email recipients while ensuring all email marketing conforms to Canadian Anti-Spam legislation
Print smaller runs of materials such as flyers, leaflets, program guides, etc. on in-house photocopier.
Coordinate with any outside providers of design service (i.e. website, video, photography, film, and advertising).
Assume responsibility for promotional material asset management, including maintaining photo archive and digital archives of all materials created.
Assist in the management and delivery of FortWhyte’s social media strategy.
Attend and actively contribute to meetings of the staff Marketing Committee.
Replenish, as needed, printed promotional materials for partners such as Travel Manitoba, Tourism Winnipeg, shopping malls, etc. and initiate new opportunities for distribution.
Oversee pre-press and press responsibilities for outside print jobs including obtaining quotes from suppliers, proofing, and job management including deadlines and quality control.
The successful candidate will have:
Diploma in graphic design
Three years industry experience and familiarity with current and emerging design trends
Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite applications
Strong applied knowledge of typography, colour, texture, photographic image and shape
Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to work cooperatively with other team members to accomplish shared goals
Ability to work independently
Experience in web site content management using Word Press
Experience in advertising and promotion through social media
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
Strong written communication skills
Photography, drawing/illustration, HTML/CSS and/or digital video editing experience are considered assets
Knowledge of Rise Vision digital signage platform an asset
