CCME (Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment) Executive Director
http://www.ccme.ca
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

OUR CLIENT: The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) is the major intergovernmental forum in Canada for discussion and joint action in this area of shared constitutional jurisdiction. The 14 member governments work as partners through this venue to elaborate Canada-wide strategies for environmental issues of national significance, and to share expertise and resources in developing common technical products for their use as environmental managers. CCME works through a key steering committee made up of senior staff from each jurisdiction, which provides on-going advice to CCME and coordinates specific CCME projects assigned to intergovernmental task groups. In this way, member governments can respond quickly to emerging issues, set national environmental strategies, and develop long-term plans. Through such task groups, CCME members work cooperatively to achieve specific goals, and to reach consensus on proposed national policies, programs, standards and guidelines. The CCME Secretariat has an enviable reputation for professional competency, service to
its members, and commitment to environmental protection.

THE OPPORTUNITY: Reporting to the Management Committee, the Executive Director is charged with the management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the corporation, the most important function of which is the provision of administrative, technical and policy support to the Council of Ministers and its senior committees. The Executive Director provides leadership and direction to a secretariat which objectively assists ministers and deputy ministers of the environment in fulfilling their collective mandate and meeting their objectives. The ideal candidate will be known for having superior personal and professional integrity, is trustworthy, and has demonstrated relationship building capabilities in a collaborative, politically sensitive forum. The Executive Director must have a sound knowledge of current environmental policy, as well as the historical, legal and political factors affecting Canadian intergovernmental relations and agreements. This individual must be knowledgeable about how governments make decisions. They must also be able to maintain neutrality while providing subtle leadership aimed at keeping agendas moving forward. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal
direction and supervision. The ability to be flexible, innovative and creative in problem solving is essential. Because of the nature of intergovernmental relations, and the importance of committee and team work to the achievements of CCME objectives, the incumbent must be  able to use tact, judgment and discretion in relations with  CCME members and partners. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, and the ability to function well in both official languages is desirable. The successful candidate will have several years experience as an executive leader within a complex organization where relationship and consensus building is at the forefront. You have a solid track record of accomplishments demonstrating your ability to support the development of policy and strategic initiatives. You are an excellent communicator with demonstrated skill in objectively analyzing issues  and developing potential solutions.

If you would like more information about this position, please contact Paul Croteau, Managing Partner, Legacy Executive Search Partners at (204) 943-0553. If you believe you can make a strong contribution to this organization in the role of Executive Director, please submit your resume  in confidence to 083163.legacy@hiredesk.net.

Mondragon is hiring!!!

We're looking for someone who is:
    * interested in co-running a vegan restaurant & radical bookstore;
    * loves to cook, bake, and learn new delicious recipes;
    * loves to read and can actively seek out new & exciting radical literature and merchandise.
    * and we're always looking for a more diverse collective,
It's a pretty amazing job really. Where else can someone jump into a fully functioning co-op & start putting into practice ideas of workplace democracy?**  Starting from day one, you'll get hands-on training on vegan cooking & baking, consensus decision-making, promotions, and then as things progress you'll be learning how to order books or produce, design ads, hold events, really, the sky's the limit. We think of Mondragon as a great project in and of itself (& a solid place to work non-hierarchically), but also as a small activist training camp! That said, it ain't all roses & buttercups. We do make minimum wage & we volunteer a fair bit of hours, but that's what owning a radical business can be about sometimes.  And it comes with some great perks, including dirt cheap books, groceries, tons of free food, and a space to call our own.   And hey, we also see a time in the near future where our wages are gonna go up.
We do ask for a 2 year commitment, however some exceptions for shorter terms have been met with open eyes. If this has peaked your interest at all, send in your resume & a cover letter explaining why you'd like to work at the Drag to mondragon@mondragon.ca or swing by and drop it off in person.  Or if you know anyone that might be interested, please forward this on to them.

In solidarity, The Mondragon Collective.
**Well, actually War on Music, ParIT, Organic Planet, & Natural Cycle to name a few other wicked co-ops.

In the fall of 2008, Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) plans to bring the Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City exhibit to Western Canada on a four-city tour.  The goal of the exhibit is to raise awareness about the plight of the world’s 42 million refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) uprooted by war and conflict.

How to Become a Volunteer at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre

The Churchill Northern Studies Centre is an independent, not-for-profit facility dedicated to supporting  research and educational initiatives in Churchill, Manitoba. The facility is located at the junction of three distinct ecosystems and provides a unique insight into life in the tundra, boreal forest and marine environments. The CNSC is open year-round to provide support for ongoing research projects, as well as offering University credit courses, Elderhostel, Earthwatch and our own Learning Vacations. We are proud to present a variety of courses which are designed to capitalize on the area's many seasonal attractions.

Volunteers have always helped the CNSC to function smoothly and efficiently. The Centre welcomes volunteers for our summer programming between June and August and for our winter programming from October to November.  Depending on our programming needs, there may be other opportunities available at other times of the year.

In exchange for working 36 hours per week the Centre provides meals and accommodation. We regret that we are not able to offer compensation for travel to and from the Churchill area. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the educational courses and related activities, whenever possible.

The CNSC is interested in volunteers that are willing to do a variety of duties. Typically our volunteers help out in some, (but not necessarily all), of the following areas:
* kitchen
* office duties
* housekeeping
* mechanical
* electrical
* welding
* desk top publishing

Most volunteers work in the kitchen assisting the cooks with dessert and salad preparation, baking, slicing and dicing, general cleaning and dishwashing duties under guidance from the kitchen staff. Sometimes these duties are augmented with office duties and light housekeeping on busy changeover days, but mostly our volunteers are needed in the kitchen.

Minimum age is 18, although younger candidates may be considered if accompanied by an adult. Fluency in English is a requirement.
