JOB OPPORTUNITY – Senior Environmental Coordinator – Government of Manitoba – Department of Infrastructure

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, this senior environmental position is responsible for central coordination and overall management of the environmental assessment and approvals process for large complex projects with Province-wide implications. This position must coordinate detailed scientific and environmental studies undertaken by various Biologists, Engineering Service Providers, and Environmental Consultants and must review and accept/reject on behalf of the Department proposed monitoring, surveillance, and mitigation programs.  The position is also responsible for obtaining the necessary environmental approvals for large complex projects, which will include compiling and submitting various environmental approval requests to the applicable regulatory agencies in accordance with relevant Acts and Regulations, often requiring negotiating with Provincial and Federal agencies.


Conditions of Employment:
-Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
-Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
-Ability to travel by boat, air and ground transportation
-May be required to work extended hours, including overnight stays
-Must be physically capable of performing all the duties associated with this position

-A Bachelor degree in biological science, environmental science, resources management, or environmental engineering or similar combination of advanced education and directly related experience.
-Experience in environmental assessment
-Experience in managing environmental approval processes
-Experience in the evaluation and implementation of aquatic an terrestrial ecosystems monitoring, mitigation, and restoration solutions.
-Experience in project management and contract administration
-Demonstrated leadership skills to create, support, and sustain an environment to enable staff to achieve results
-Excellent interpersonal communication skills with ability to establish and maintain effective, positive, and professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
-Strong analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
-Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
