University of Manitoba Sustainability Office is seeking an Energy Systems Analyst Intern

Energy Systems Analyst – 6 month Internship
University of Manitoba – Office of Sustainability – Winnipeg, Manitoba
35 hours per week
Salary: $21.73 / hour
Start Date: Immediately for a 6 month period

Job Description:
This position will work with the Director and a professional engineer to deliver programs specifically designed to improve the energy efficiency of campus buildings through modelling energy performance, calculating projected reductions, monitoring actual reductions and conducting systems optimization. Further the intern will work with engineering and technical staff to;
• Assist with identifying and investigating energy and water savings opportunities
• Assist with energy and water savings by tracking and calculating Greenhouse
Gas emissions reductions
• Assist with identifying and quantifying energy retrofit costs and potential savings
• Assist with identifying and investigating opportunities to optimize the performance of existing measures including the documentation, measurement and reporting of energy performance reports
• Assist with the a University Green Building Strategy

Required Qualifications:
A candidate with one of the following, Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Bio-Systems from a recognized Canadian university. Preference is for a candidate with experience in sustainability, energy performance, and/or system optimization in a campus environment with a central plant and a district energy distribution and heating and cooling system.

• Conducting research and data analysis
• Assisting with lifecycle cost assessment
• Conducting experiments methodically, analyze data and interpret results
• Working with others to identify, formulate and produce effective solutions to emerging problems
• Drafting technical reports and memos to communicate findings
• Effective written and oral communications and team collaboration skills

This internship is funded under the UN Canada Green Corps and applicants must meet
the following requirements:
• Must be between 18-30 (inclusive) at the start of the placement;
• Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or someone who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
• Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits;
• Must be able to commit to a full-time job placement;
• Must not have participated in any government-funded youth program within 1 year;
• Unemployed or underemployed**
**Underemployment exists when employed persons are a) working part-time, or b) working in a field that utilize their academic qualification, thus not attaining their full employment level
