 Job Summary: The Landscape/Habitat Technician is responsible for FWA site maintenance including buildings and grounds as well as for various enhancement projects.

 Principal Tasks:

1. Maintain all FWA buildings (Alloway Reception Centre, Interpretive Centre, Adventure Site and Siobhan Richardson Field Station) and the grounds around them on a daily basis (40%)

  • Top-up bird feeders
  • Sweep down sidewalks/boardwalks
  • Handle repairs as needed
  • Take out boats, canoes, picnic tables, etc. for the season
  • Irrigate native plantings including Prairie Sod House grass
  • Control weeds and cut grass by Alloway Centre, Visitor Parking Lot, Boreal Forest area and Carbon Bluff mound, Teaching Circles, and Prairie Sod House
  • Initiate and maintain invasive/aggressive species control in public areas
  • Assist volunteer gardening team as needed

Implement various environmental/enhancement projects (60%)

  • Install way-finding and interpretive signage as needed
  • Enhance the landscape for cross-country ski trails (5 km)
  • Initiate and maintain lakefront willow control
  • Maintain and enhance trails (7 km)
  • Repair floating boardwalks (1 km) and docks as needed
  • Control watershed management: cleaning ditches and culverts, clearing cattails, regulating pumps
  • Assist with set up for weddings and events

 

Hiring Criteria:

Experience in grounds keeping and building maintenance work

Experience in operating handheld power equipment

Strong and able-bodied for the physical requirements of the job

Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision

Valid Driver’s License with means of private transportation (no bus service to FWA)
