Description:

Are you passionate about the environment? Want to work at an environmental non-profit organization with a forty year history?

The Manitoba Eco-Network (MbEN) is a non-profit registered charity which seeks to strengthen Manitoba’s environmental community with the goal of protecting our environment for the benefit of current and future generations. MbEN serves as an umbrella for environmental non-governmental organizations across the province.

We build capacity and support grassroots organizations’ participation in the environmental community, we celebrate positive environmental actions that happen within Manitoba, and work to elevate the voices of all those within our community. MbEN facilitates connections, engages in advocacy opportunities, and undertakes community-based research that promotes meaningful public participation in environmental governance processes.

We are looking for a summer student to join our team in the role of Communications Assistant. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

● Responding to phone calls and emails from member organizations and the public;
● Tabling at community events;
● Writing and distributing the monthly eco-bulletin;
● Preparing social media videos, graphics, and posts;
● Updating the website, including writing website copy;
● Research on environmental policy issues as assigned;
● Various administrative tasks;
● Other work as directed.

Experience with graphic design, website design and social media acumen will be considered an asset, but is not required. We are more than happy to train the right candidate.

A passion for environmental issues is a prerequisite.

The position will be in-person at our office, 302-583 Ellice, but remote work can also be accommodated if required. This position is 35 hours per week at $19 per hour. This is a 9-week temporary summer position funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program. As such, applicants must meet Canada Summer Job Grant requirements and be:
● Between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
● A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*;
● Legally entitled to work in accordance with the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. *International students are not eligible.

MbEN is committed to working towards a barrier-free workplace and to expanding the accessibility of the workplace to persons with disabilities. Please advise if you require any accommodations at any part of the recruitment process or during employment.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown women, people of colour, people from LGBTQ2S+ communities, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized or racialized communities are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every qualification. MbEN is an equal opportunity employer. We are actively seeking to build an inclusive and diverse team and strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply. If you are excited about this role, but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply as you may be the ideal candidate we are looking for.
