MbEN attends the Ellice Street Festival in late June 2023

The Climate Safe, Green City team attended the annual Ellice Street Festival in late June 2023. This block party is a joint effort among West End Resource Centre, Spence Neighbourhood Association, and other community partners to provide a day of fun and food for the community.

Manitoba Eco-Network, including our summer students Tushar Raichura and Chathuri Mudalige, had a table with project information. Along with our idea board for folks to share their climate adaptation ideas, we were pleased to offer small paper cups of fresh berries as a fun summer treat! Our students took the lead with explaining our project to the public and engaging them in conversation.

This event saw some of our highest rates of engagement. Lots of people came by to share their worries and hopes for the future of our environment. We saw that increasing green space was a huge priority for local residents. We also heard many stories about uncomfortable or substandard housing that fails to protect folks from high heat.
