Position Type: Seasonal – Summer (one F/T, one P/T)
Dates: June 22-September 4, 2026
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm (P/T hours will vary)
Job Summary:
The Lifeguards are responsible for the safety and well-being of campers in all lakefront activities, training camp staff, volunteers and campers in waterfront safety procedures as well as delivering basic canoe and kayak instruction.
Duties:
- Provide lifeguard and waterfront safety supervision for water-based activities at FortWhyte Alive
- Assist other camp staff in delivery of camp programs
- Delivery of water safety sessions to staff, counsellors and campers
- Develop water program schedule in conjunction with other camp staff
- Maintain a safe and controlled atmosphere during water activities
- Maintaining inventory of First Aid supplies
- Administering First Aid to campers
- Maintain cleanliness of FortWhyte camp setting, inside and out
- Prepare a final report
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current National Lifeguard, CPR and Standard First Aid certifications
- Experience lifeguarding in a summer camp waterfront setting.
- Experience working with children
- Strong oral communication skills
- Proven behaviour management and problem-solving skills
- Valid Driver’s License and daily access to a vehicle
Assets:
- Experience and/or certification in canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and/or archery
- Child abuse registry check and criminal records check required upon hiring
