Summer Position: Day Camp Section Coordinator

Position Type: Seasonal – Summer

Dates: June 1, 2026 – September 6, 2026

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Job Summary:

Each Section Coordinator is responsible for the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities for a particular age group of campers: Kinder Camp (ages 4 & 5), Rabbit Rangers (grades 1 & 2), Bison Buddies (grades 3 & 4), EcoQuest (grades 5 & 6), and Fox Bay (grades 7 & 8). Each Coordinator develops innovative nature programming, plans and implements training sessions for volunteer counselors and supervises them in the delivery of activities with the campers.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Create theme-based recreational and educational day camp programs for school-age children and youth
  • Oversee the implementation of all the camp activities while watching for the safety and well-being of all program participants
  • Plan and implement training sessions for volunteer counselors
  • Supervise and guide volunteer counselors
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of camp space and other camp facilities
  • Communicate with parents to assess the quality of their child’s experience
  • Evaluate camp counselors on their job performance
  • Prepare a final report at the end of camp
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Hiring Criteria:

  • Experience planning and implementing recreational/educational programs
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Extensive experience working with children in a camp, classroom or school-age day care setting
  • A strong interest in working with children and in environmental education
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Initiative and proven problem-solving skills
  • Physically fit and ability to work outdoors for long periods of time
  • Child abuse registry check and criminal records check required upon hiring

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture is an asset
  • CPR and Standard First Aid certification
  • Experience and/or certification in canoeing, kayaking, archery
