Description:

Position: IT Manager and Digital Organizer
Organization: Small Change Fund
Location: Remote within Canada, Saskatchewan eastward to Newfoundland

Who we are

Small change Fund acts as a catalyst for individuals and grassroots organizations to improve the environment, reduce poverty, and promote reconciliation efforts across Canada, working with Indigenous Peoples to support the protection of their lands, waters and communities.

We are a capacity support engine and have raised over $20M, helping more than 300 organizations across the country, the majority tackling environmental and climate-related issues. The primary source of individual fundraising for our projects is through our crowdfunding site. Our reach has grown exponentially over the past year, and we are looking for a motivated team member to join our dedicated staff.

Who we are looking for

We seek a highly organized and technically-skilled individual to fill the role of IT Manager and Digital Organizer. This position is crucial in maintaining our IT infrastructure and ensuring our digital systems are efficiently managed, supporting the work to engage a vibrant and active audience of partners and donors.

Our new team member must thrive in a fast-paced work environment, demonstrate exceptional attention to strategy and execution, and be capable of pivoting to address opportunities and challenges. Candidates for this role must have excellent communication and people skills.

The candidate should be able to work independently from a remote office location, must provide their own home office equipment, including a laptop with the ability to video call and a cell phone, and will require a secure and reliable internet connection. The successful candidate needs to be located from Saskatchewan eastward to Newfoundland.

What the job is about

There are two parts to this position.

First, and most essentially, the IT Manager oversees and maintains our IT infrastructure, particularly our award-winning crowdfunding platform and our donor management CRM. The Manager trouble-shoots, maintains, updates and implements new tools to keep our platform and its associated tools ‘best-in-class.’

Second, the IT Manager also plays a role as Digital Organizer, helping to build strong online communities, drive social change, and achieve organizational goals, by bringing forward best-in-class, and new and effective information distribution opportunities. The Organizer empowers individuals to connect, collaborate, and take action on issues that matter to them.

Key Responsibilities for the IT Manager portion:

  • Manage all IT: our systems (especially our CRM), websites, computers, the cloud
  • Provide technical aptitude & coding literacy – familiarity with reading code and understanding what it’s doing, line by line. (Some languages are more important than others – HTML and CSS (front-end) and Php (back-end), very basic sequel (used to read raw databases)
  • Demonstrate strong experience with WordPress
  • Develop new IT projects that foster the mission of the Fund
  • Provide IT thought leadership in the ENGO/NGO sector: what should charities/NGOs look out for? What are the best practices?

Key responsibilities for the Digital Organizer portion:

  • Online Engagement – Manage and moderate online discussions, respond to inquiries, and facilitate interactions within the community.
  • Leveraging Digital Tools for Campaigns – Leverage digital tools to support partners in their campaigns to raise awareness, mobilize support, and drive action on specific issues.
  • Data Analysis –Track and analyze community metrics to measure engagement, identify trends, and optimize strategies.
  • Relationship Building – Cultivate relationships with community members, identify key influencers, and build alliances with other organizations to advance Small Change Fund’s digital strategy.
  • Tool Management – Utilize and share knowledge of various digital tools for communication, collaboration, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field
  • Proven experience in IT management and digital organization
  • Knowledge of data security best practices
  • Strong technical skills in hardware and software
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and other digital tools
  • Proficiency in using CRMs (Small Change Fund uses Bloomerang)
  • Experience in community building and online engagement
  • Ability to leverage digital tools to develop and execute online campaigns
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Data analysis and reporting skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively
  • Literacy in using AI tools and ability to support the integration of these tools across the team

Applicable Skills

  • Interest in environmental, Indigenous and social justice issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in day-to-day tasks and role
  • Willingness to assist wherever help is needed

Compensation

Salary of $75,000 per year, as well as health benefits and two weeks paid vacation after three months’ probation. The successful candidate will also receive time off between Christmas and New Year’s.
