Description:

The Assiniboine Rotary Club and the Friends of the Living Prairie Museum are looking to hire up to five individuals (dependent on funding) under the Urban Green Team and Canada Summer Jobs programs to help maintain rare tall-grass prairie habitat.

PROJECT LOCATION: Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg MB.

PROJECT/JOB DESCRIPTION: The Living Prairie Museum is a 12 ha tall-grass prairie preserve with an interpretive centre. The preserve serves as a living museum and offers an opportunity to experience rare habitat in an urban area. The preserve area, native seed plots, and interpretive centre are maintained regularly, and interpretive programming and events occur on-site throughout the summer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with the removal of invasive plants to protect endangered habitat
• Participate in seed collection and plant propagation activities
• Engage in management activities that may include sheep grazing or pollinator habitat
• Maintain a hiking trail
• Assist with special event promotion and delivery, and interpretive programs when required

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Applicants must be 15-29 years of age to qualify
• Enrollment in post-secondary education with specialization in Environmental Studies/Science, Biology, Ecology, Horticulture or related field is an asset
• Interest and general knowledge of Winnipeg’s natural areas
• Willingness to work outdoors (under adverse conditions, at times)
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Self-motivated and reliable

ANTICIPATED TERM: Primarily weekdays, late-May to August 31st, 2023
