The Changing Landscape of Environmental Governance in Manitoba: SOEG Update
In response to the recent cabinet shuffle, release of new mandate letters, and Throne Speech made by the Government of Manitoba, the Manitoba Eco-Network has updated its State of Environmental Governance (SOEG) Companion Document and released an Addendum #1 to reflect the changes in ministerial responsibilities.
Environmental governance is complicated and the constant changes that occur make it difficult for ordinary Manitobans to navigate. For example, it often be difficult to determine which government department(s) or minister(s) citizens should talk to about their environmental concerns.
“Our goal for the SOEG series is to provide an updated record of the public officials responsible for environmental governance in Manitoba, to make it easier for the public to engage in governance processes” says lead author and Manitoba Eco-Network Policy Advocacy Director Heather Fast.
The updates made to the Companion document and additional information provided in SOEG Addendum #1 outline the changes that have recently occurred due to the Cabinet shuffle and provide an overview of the priorities recently communicated (e.g., Throne Speech, Mandate letters) by the Government of Manitoba, with the potential to impact environmental governance
in Manitoba.
