Description:

Position Description: Tree Band Aid seeks a versatile, energetic and dependable post-secondary graduate who is under the age of 30 for a 6 month term position of Urban Forestry Coordinator, beginning in July 2024. The position is supported through Clean Foundation’s Science Horizons Internship program. The ideal candidate for this position will have the versatility and willingness to participate in and receive training for a wide range of administrative and operational tasks related to tree banding, urban tree health and Christmas tree seasonal operations. That means some weeks will be at the desk on the phone working with a spreadsheet, researching, updating the website and social media. Some weeks will be in the field to trial new tree health services, tree banding, harvesting boreal foliage for holiday decorations, or tending the fire at the Chestnut Trees stand. Our hope is to find someone that is interested in a permanent, recurring seasonal position in this business and who’s role can grow along with the business. The position offers the flexibility of remote work, but requires the staff to be out in the field during operations during certain points of the season.

Background: Tree Band Aid is a Winnipeg-based tree banding service, founded in the River Heights area in 2001. Our mandate is to protect our city’s beloved tree canopy against cankerworm infestations by installing high quality tree bands at an affordable cost. In 2022, we took over operations of the beloved local Christmas tree stand formerly known as ‘Pete’s Trees’, which we rebranded to ‘Chestnut Trees’. In 2024 we plan to pilot a range of new tree health services including Dutch Elm injections, fertilizing and mulching.
