POSITION: West End 24 Hour Safe Space Outreach Worker (Casual) Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to hire a Casual WE24 Outreach Worker for our Overnight Safe Space.

The Outreach Workers will be responsible for programming and building relationships with youth at the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre. This includes engaging youth with positive activities, performing risk assessments, providing effective crisis response, connecting them to community resources and social services, and providing mentorship. West End 24-Hour Safe Space is an overnight safe space which means candidates should expect to work overnight

Responsibilities
● Ensure the space is a safe and welcoming environment for all participants
● Provide direct services and support to youth between the ages of 13-26 during the hours of 11:00 pm – 7:00 am
● Provide a safe space to sleep for participants between the ages of 13-26
● Build relationships with, mentor, and support youth from the West End of Winnipeg
● Ensure participant’s needs are met in the areas of food, safety, shelter, housing, hygiene, and harm reduction
● Monitor the safety and well-being of participants who access the space
● Provide effective crisis response including overdose response, first aid, mental health emergency response
● Support youth in a strength-based approach using a behaviour management model that includes restorative justice practices
● Liaise with after-hour agencies to facilitate contact and services for youth
● Complete daily logs, incident reports, contact logs, daily stats, and other documentation as applicable
● Refer participants to additional agencies for services they may require
● Complete opening and closing responsibilities of the safe space
● Comply with all SNA employee expectations, policies, and procedures
● Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings and special events

Requirements
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Life experiences similar to those that are served by WE24 and/or a combination of experience working or volunteering with people in a community context
● Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of barriers that exist for Indigenous and Newcomer youth and their families
● Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, anti-colonialism and anti-oppression
● Knowledge of restorative justice and harm reduction philosophies and practices
● Knowledge of resources available for youth and adults within the inner-city and the ability to refer individuals to the resources for their needs
● Ability to navigate crisis and support others through stressful situations
● Demonstrate excellent communication skills

Assets
● Experience working with youth involved with gangs
● Experience working with youth who live with addictions or mental health
● Experience working with 2SLGBTQ* community and other marginalized groups of youth
● Experience working with, volunteering with, mentoring or counseling youth
● Education, experience and/or training in a related field
● Class 5 Driver’s License

Hours and Remuneration
SNA agrees to pay the employee $18.00 per hour on a bi-weekly schedule with hours paid as worked. WE24 staff who work between the hours of 12:00 am-7:00 am will receive a $1.00 overnight shift premium.

Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked to accommodate scheduling. WE24 Outreach Workers should expect to work overnight (11:00 pm-7:00am), Monday-Sunday.
