Integrated Resource Plan: Opening Comments (Manitoba Eco-Network)

📋The Manitoba Eco-Network and Environmental Defence have been collaborating on a joint intervention before the Public Utilities Board (PUB), in review of Manitoba Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and Major New Facilities (MNF) application. Hearings began July 27th and are scheduled to go until September 4th.

📋We are intervening in these proceedings to enhance public accountability by challenging the evidence presented by Manitoba Hydro, and to show a better way forward towards decarbonization.

📋It is our belief that through these proceedings we can demonstrate that we do not need to build new fossil-gas power plants (that lead to an increase in Manitoba’s emissions), but rather that we should be investing in wind and solar energy, paired with battery storage, as well as further investments in energy efficiency and demand-shifting.

📋This will ultimately be better for our environment AND for rate-paying Manitobans.
