Louise May on why you should give to the Manitoba Eco-Network

Dear Manitoba Eco-Network Community,

I am writing to you today to encourage you to match my donation of $500 (or any other amount you can afford) towards the general operations and special projects of the Manitoba Eco-Network in light of their current fundraising campaign.

Recently, many community members and groups came together to save the critically endangered ecosystem of the Lemay Forest in St. Norbert.

As part of the core team working on the Lemay Forest, I feel that it is important for the wider community to understand the role that the Manitoba Eco-Network played in this successful campaign.  From the earliest conversations, Manitoba Eco-Network staff were behind the scene researching legal and political strategies, distributing messaging throughout the Network, attending and supporting many of the events and actions.  I believe that the Manitoba Eco-Network’s participation in this campaign was significant to its success.

I have been a Manitoba Eco-Network member, supporter and participant in many of its actions, talks, workshops and campaigns for over 30 years.  Many of those years, I was unable to make a financial contribution but supported in other ways.  In the years that I am able to make a financial donation, I know that that money is best used towards strengthening our network.

I feel grateful to have been bitten by the bug of environmentalism as a young adult in the late 80’s watching my aunt Alice Chambers, a biologist from Pinawa, Manitoba, become a leader in the environmental movement at that time.  Since then, I have been actively putting myself forward in as many ways as I can fathom.  I think of the Manitoba Eco-Network as the glue that holds our whole community together.  We are not alone in our concerns and our actions towards change.

Here’s to a transforming world future in line with the values of nature.

Thank-you for your donation, and your participation.

Louise May
