Manitoba Eco-Network selects James Beddome as new Executive Director

Beddome says he is excited to lead such an amazing team of staff, board members, and supporters

The Board of Directors of the Manitoba Eco-Network is pleased to welcome James Beddome as their new Executive Director.

“We conducted an extensive search. From more than 40 applications, we interviewed seven strong candidates,” said Manitoba Eco-Network Chair Lindsay Robinson, adding, “we believe James brings a unique set of skills and experiences that will benefit the organization and we are thrilled to have him join the team.”

Beddome is currently a lawyer, whose practice has focused primarily on serving Indigenous governments, organizations and individuals in a broad variety of areas. This includes experience assisting First Nations to draft their own environmental laws under the First Nations Lands Management Act and representation of tribal organizations at Clean Environment Commission and National Energy Board hearings.

A past board member of the Manitoba Eco-Network, Beddome brings with him a longstanding passion for the environment.

Prior to entering law school, Beddome was a founding partner of Wheely Green, a bike taxi service and ecologically focused marketing company in Winnipeg.

During law school, Beddome worked as a research consultant for Manitoba Wildlands, a member organization of the Manitoba Eco-Network.

“I am really excited to start this next chapter in my life,” said Beddome. “The Manitoba Eco-Network is such a valuable asset for Manitoba, with such an amazing team of staff, board members, and supporters. Through collaboration with its members and others, the Eco-Network delivers immense public value as the voice of the environmental community in Manitoba — helping to educate and engage the public on environmental issues and governance.”

Beddome will replace Glen Koroluk, who — after five rewarding years at the Manitoba Eco-Network — is pursuing a new role as the co-ordinator for the National Farmers Foundation.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team,” Beddome said.  “They have led the organization through a challenging period. Helped to broaden and diversify funding sources, laying a good foundation for us to build upon going forward,” he added.
