Please Donate to the Manitoba Eco-Network for #GivingTuesday

Today is #GivingTuesday. Please consider donating to the Manitoba Eco-Network.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the biggest shopping days of the year, #GivingTuesday on December 3rd marks something greater. It’s the global movement to do better for each other and the planet through acts of generosity.

At the Manitoba Eco-Network we give back everyday by carrying out our mission of promoting good environmental governance, supporting and building capacity, advocating for environmental justice, and acting as a bridge between environmental organizations, the public, and all levels of government.

A recent example of our work is the State of Environmental Governance Report. We know that when faced with a environmental issue it can be difficult to know:

  • which departments have responsibility for key elements involved in decision-making;
  • what opportunities exist for all stakeholders, particularly non-government and non-industry actors, to play a role in decision-making processes; and,
  • the barriers and opportunities for meaningful involvement moving forward.

That’s why we wrote a very detailed report that answers exactly those questions. We also included a companion document that provides an overview of the relevant laws, and which departments are responsible for them. We also made a number of recommendations intended to strengthen Manitoba’s environmental governance framework, enable more meaningful public engagement, and build better relationships.

This is literally years of work, by many people. Why did we do all this? Because we know that it will serve as a valuable reference tool for activists, journalists, academics, policy makers, government officials, and the public at large.

Then just after releasing the report, the Manitoba Cabinet shuffle occurred. We went right back to work and quickly updated the companion document, and issued a further addendum #1 to update the report to reflect the cabinet changes and which also provided an overview of the priorities recently communicated in the Throne Speech and Mandate letters.

Our goal in doing this work is to make it easier for the public to engage. It is neither glamorous nor easy doing this work. It is tiring. Often frustrating, and sometimes tedious and boring. It is also important, exhilarating and rewarding too.

Please consider helping us out this Giving Tuesday by making a donation to the Manitoba Eco-Network. Any amount helps.

At Manitoba Eco Network, we’re not just fighting the environment’s daily battles—we’re changing the rules of the game. By shifting laws and policies, we ensure Manitoba’s environment is protected for generations to come. Your donation helps us lay the groundwork for a future where the fight for environmental protection doesn’t have to happen every day.
